IBIDEM

Ibidem is part of the Nota Bene Workstation

Manage your bibliographic material with consummate ease using Ibidem. Store bibliographic information in the simple database format, and Ibidem will manage and format your bibliographic references for you. You only need to enter information about a work once in your career (and Archiva even does that automatically for you). You can add keywords or annotations, or create hyperlinks from any record to virtually anything (web pages, graphics, pdf files, or full-length note-taking files which you can incorporate in an Orbis textbase). The possibilities are limited only by your imagination. You can search or sort your records in virtually any way you want, creating customized subsets of your bibliography that you can subsequently search, output, or print. Because Ibidem is part of Nota Bene, you can even print bibliographies as tables. Creating reading lists, to-buy lists, or annotated subject bibliographies to give to your students has never been easier. If Ibidem did nothing else, you’d already be singing its praises. But that’s just the beginning. Where Ibidem really shines is in handling bibliographic citations in the files you write, automatically formatting footnotes, endnotes, parenthetical short forms, and reference-number in-text citations, along with end-of-paper reference lists and bibliographies, according to a thousand different academic styles. Subsequent references are automatically abbreviated using shortened titles, ibid. or op. cit., as appropriate. You can change styles, and watch footnotes or endnotes appear or disappear as all citations in a document are automatically updated to the new format. Ibidem's seamlessly integrated, state-of-the-art control of bibliographic data will save you countless hours of drudgery, and your personal bibliographic databases will always be at your fingertips.

Is it as good as it sounds?
  • Instant access while writing or editing your documents (an integral part of Nota Bene)
  • Handles 65,000 references, each up to 30 pages in length
  • Notecard-like forms for easy entry of bibliographic information (separate fields for author, title, date, publication data, contributors, keywords, annotations, and much more)
  • Separate entry templates for different kinds of works (books, articles in journal, chapters in edited books, etc.)
  • Drop-down list displays already-entered data in active field, enabling fast and consistent data entry of new items (simply pick from list)
  • Add multiple hyperlinks to other files—graphic images, pdf files, URL’s, regular files
  • create linked note-taking files, in which you take notes on the current record, complete with cross-linked page references
  • Note-taking files can be searched using Orbis, with citation information retrieved automatically along with notes
  • Show all bibliographic records in short-list table view (with details of selected record shown in another window), or individually
  • Preview panel updates automatically as you add/edit information, showing formatted citation according to selected style
  • Over a thousand academic bibliographic styles included
  • Fast and easy searching (select 32 different criteria at a time) with powerful search operators (“and,” “or,” “exclusive or,” or “not,” as well as “starts with,” “ends with,” page or date range, and more)
  • Powerful sorting options (by eight different fields simultaneously) of all bibliographic records, including standard author-title, author-year, and other variants
  • Create subsets of database based on searches on any fields (for example, select all works with particular keyword, or create annotated subject bibliographies for your students)
  • Subsets updated automatically as new records matching the subset criteria are added
  • Produce regular bibliographies, subject bibliographies, authority lists and more from the entire database, or from any subset
  • Or cite sources in a paper (with a single keystroke or mouse click) as in-text citations, with or without end-of-document reference list
  • Quick single-key lookup of author, title or other data when working in a document
  • In-text citations automatically shorten subsequent references to a cited work (using short title, ibid., or op. cit. as necessary)
  • Color coding identifies Ibidem-generated citations in open documents (blue)
  • Or override dynamic Ibidem-generated citations to make your own custom changes (citations turn green)
  • Or create “alternate” citation format which overrides Ibidem’s formatting rules whenever the selected item is cited (can specify distinct initial, subsequent, and reference-list forms)
  • Numerous other citation options available (automatically exclude author or year from a citation, enter in reference-list without adding in-text citation, make subsequent citations into full form; suppress punctuation, etc.)
  • Numerous other customizable options—add fields (up to a hundred total, different work templates, etc.)
  • Compatible with Archiva for efficient Internet searches and automated data entry
